MALAYSIA RAINFOREST CHALLENGE 2008
COMPETITION’S REGULATION
1 – NECESSARY FORMALITIES TO TAKE PART IN COMPETITION
Competition is open to all off-road vehicles weighting less than 3,5 ton.
Competition takes place in Gradisca d’Isonzo (Go) from the 11th to the 13th of April 2008.
In case of alluvion competition takes place from the 18th to the 20th of April 2008.
Competition requires a registration.
Pilot and co-pilot must be eighteen or more.
Pilot and co-pilot must own valid driver’s licence (class B).
2 – VEHICLES CHARACTERISTICS
A horn system is required.
Tyres diameter must not be longer than 120 cm.
All kinds of mud tyres are allowed.
Tyres must have 80% of tread at least.
Doors or cloth doors or middle doors or each other kind of protection are required.
In case of doors with window, window must always be closed for ¾ of total spread at least.
In case of doors with no window, a net is required. Not type-tested net is allowed too.
Wind screen is not necessary. If there’s not, a net is required.
Back hatch is not necessary.
Safety seat belts (current model or with four coupler points) are required. They must be duly installed.
“Soft top” or “open top” vehicles must have a roll bar protection.
Towing bracket in front and back of vehicles is required. It must be duly installed.
Each kind ok vehicle is allowed with the respect for above-mentioned characteristics.
3 – SAFETY-RULES
Type-tested (car or motorbike) crash helmet for pilot and co-pilot is required. Crash helmet must be correctly wore and laced up during the race.
Safety seat belts are required during the race.
One or more fire-extinguishers must be clearly exhibited in the car.
First-aid kit is required.
During the race pilot and co-pilot must wear clothes provided by Organization Staff.
4 – VEHICLES EQUIPMENT
Vehicles must be equipped with at least:
1 type-tested strop – minimun lenght: 6 m. and minimun carryinc capacity: 3,25 ton.
1 type tested strop for trees - minimun lenght: 2 m. and minimun carryinc capacity: 3,25 ton.
1 type-tested snatch block
1 jack
2 spring-catches – minimun carryinc capacity: 3,25 ton.
2 couples of leather gloves
clothes or rags for winch cable (for plasma winch cable too)
1 spare wheel.
Winch is required for all vehicles.
5 – WINCH
Winch must:
- be duly installed
- have a declared minimun carrying capacity: 3,5 ton.
- have a continuos automatic brake.
Cable winch must:
- have a minimun lenght (at the start of the race): 30 m.
- have a minimun diameter: 8 mm.
- be in good condition.
Steel cable must be correctly plumbed at the end (where the hook is installed).
In case of break, steel cable must not be knotted or clamped.
Plasma cable is allowed.
Plasma cable must be duly knotted at the end.
In case of break, plasma cable can be used only wether the hook is duly knotted at the end.
Hook must have a minimun carrying capacity equal to 3,25 ton.
Wether the carrying capacity winch exceeds the minimun, winch equipment must be made proportionate.
More winches are allowed.
6 – ORGANIZATION
Organization Commettee chooses Organization Staff. Organization Staff wears special uniforms.
Organization Staff assures correct course of competition.
Technical Commettee is made up of people coming from Organization Staff.
Technical Commettee is made up of one Competition Supervisor, trial judges, people controlling trial, car parking and “closed area”.
Technical Commettee attends to the observance of rules.
Technical Commettee can disqualify partecipants when regulation or safety-rules are disregarded.
Techinal Commettee can disqualify vehicles when they are dangerous for pilot, co-pilot, things or third parties.
Competition Supervisor can:
- stop competition without notice
- reject a registration without reason
- stop trial, change running road and rules.
7 – TECHNICAL SERVICING
Organization Staff with appropriate equipment is assigned to the rescue of damaged vehicles during trials.
Every damaged vehicle must be removed from running road so that competition can start as soon as possible.
As needed, the damaged vehicle is pulled to car parking or “closed area”, according to the possibilities of Organization Staff.
8 – INSURANCE
Competition is insured by UISP.
Partecipants must sign a letter in which they accept that G.F.I. Alpe Adria Off-Road – S.Andrea and Organization Commettee decline all responsability for accidents causing damage to things or people, before, during or after competition.
9 – REGISTRATION
Entry of one vehicle (one pilot plus one co-pilot) costs € 300,00.
Registration must reach by March the 22th.
After March the 22th, a surplus is required: € 300,00 plus € 100,00.
No more than 40 vehicles can be admitted to competition.
Starting order is decided according to a drawing one week before the beginning of competition.
In next trials, starting order is inverted: the first car in the first trial is the last car in the second trial.

10 – PREPARATION OF COMPETITION
Organization Staff chooses people controlling that vehicles and crew respect rules (see points from 1 to 5).
Control operations take place in main “closed area”: April the 11th (Friday) until 8,00 p.m. and April the 12th (Saturday) from 6,00 to 7 a.m.
11 – BEHAVIOUR OF PARTECIPANTS
Pilot, co-pilot and teams must behave correctly with the respect for environment, people and Organization Staff.
Insults at other partecipants, public or Organization Staff are not admitted.
Out of trial, partecipants must drive carefully, Danger manoeuvrings and useless noises must be avoided.
Alcoholics and drugs are forbidden.
12 – DISQUALIFICATION
Partecipants that don’t respect race regulation are disqualificated. Registration fee is not given back.
